alright fella's, c'mon now help me out. I have been pitilin' with it all day and it is more of a rattle. It only does it when under a load. . .pulling away from a stop sign or coming out of the driveway. It won't rattle in neutral or park. I am thinking it is the torque converter because the tranny fluid is full and very clean.

fishmanndotcom, It probably just good ole spark knock. But too much of it for too long of a period is not a good thing.
It can be caused by the timing being advanced to much, lean carburetor, EGR valve not working or its vacuum source un-plugged. There are a few other things that could cause it but these are the most common ones.
Does the Edelbrock carb still have its stock calibrations?
Check your base timing with a light and see what it is. This is when you plug your vacuum advance hose and drop the rpm's enough to where the centifugal advance is not coming in either. Then let it idle and check the timing with a light. Should be around 12 degree's BTDC. Do you have a stock timing chain in it still?
Don't un-plug your vacuum advance on your distrubutor. As this advances your timing as your rpm's increase, giving you better performance and fuel economy.

Well I haven't messed with the flost levels so that is factory calibrated, but I had to adjust the air/fuel mix screws. It does still have the factory timing chain on it. I am thinking that the timing is advanced too much, but I will have to check it out later. I will post another reply tonight (11:27am Est time) about midnight. Thanx for all the help; keep'em coming.

It is important to understand too, that the Edelbrock comes with the leanest metering rods they make. I had to step mine up to richen the mixture. This can not be done by the mixture screws. This is only for the idle mixture.
well, that's all folks. i appreciate all of your input. My timing was advanced by about 20 degrees or so. So now I have no rattling/pinging. but I am still having some trouble starting. Thanx guys.
