5.0 timing bump degree's
what timing do you run on your 302 sd truck. one i had mine set to around 14 and started to ping pulling a trailer. what would make it ping also when others report as high as 16 degrees

14 is where I run mine, no ping. If you have never pulled the head's good chance you may have quite a bit of carbon build-up. I already pull the heads and cleaned the tops of the pistons so I haven't noticed any pinging as high as 16, but run 14 just starndard.
If you want to try and run 14, try the seafoam trick. May help to break up carbon. Can also try running 89, 91, or 93 octane. check gap, most run .060 for advanced timing and the higher octane will ignite slower if you continue to have pinging.
Hopefully others will chime in with some results to give you some ideas.
