Been looking for a stock replacement cruise control pad and horn button. All of the aftermarket dealers seem to have discontinued their sales of this item. All the ones I find in the local junk yards here are trashed. Anyone know who or where I can get a replacement?
Mine is above the horn pad. The entire piece is dry rotted and suffering from to many years of heavy horn play. The unit comes off as one piece, horn pad and cruise controls, with two screws behind the steering wheel spokes. Horn pad broke off last month. I have thought about going with a later model ranger steering wheel, with the cruise buttons, but I really like the stock set up.
I hated the '80-86 style cruise wheel for the short time I used it. I like the '87-91 MUCH better. I peeled the goofy woodgrain crap off mine, but it still didn't look or feel good, so I got the newer wheel & pad. Not only are they much easier to find; the wheel has a thicker ring that's easier for large hands to grip. I use the cheap plastic wheel because the leather tends to peel off, leaving you with a thin ring again, and a notch at the bottom where the seam was.
Guess I have gotten confortable with it. I just set one or both arms/hands on top of the spoke on long trips. Driven a 97 for work, never really thought about using one of those. Was yours a direct bolt onto the earlier colum?

'92-up won't work - you have to stay with ?-'91 steering wheels, but they all bolt on and work with no problem IF you use the correct horn pad. If your column has cruise, you MUST use a cruise horn pad that fits whatever steering wheel you use. If it's NOT a cruise column, you CAN'T use a cruise horn pad.
