I understand all that....that’s why I said basic calculation...I am a mechanical engineering student...I am not going to go through a lot of time doing flow calculations when I have HW and reports to write. I was just saying that the cross sectional area of the 2x6 was way less than the cross sectional area of the 5" circular tubing that normal stack kits run across the bed of the truck.
Edit: I also wasn't even considering the transition from the horizontal piece of tubing to the vertical piece. Just considering the horizontal piece you would greatly reduce your flow if you used a 2x6 Vs a 6" diameter pipe
That 2x6 pipe would be like the smashed down pipe in a different location.
The square tee, and the dead ends of the box tube almost as bad.
Two 90 degree ell's cut and welded together so all three openings are the diameter of the pipe you are using makes the tee.
Either a pair of 45 degree ell's or a single 90 to get the exhaust going up from below the cab.
A pair of 90 ells to get the stacks vertical.
If you shop around you can come up with the parts to install stacks cheaper than the kits.
If you have fab skills, you can reduce that even more.
It's a small picture, and of a kit system, but this is what the tee needs to look like.
Took me about an hour, two 90 ells, a 4" grinder with a cut off wheel and a welder to make one just like that.
Thats my challenge right now.. Finding a place that sells the pipe, or will make the bends for me. I am sure I can get it narrowed down. But I do know that with in the past on other materials and projects, it has been way cheaper. I seen even the cheapy kits for more then $500.. I dont know who they are kidding, but thats insane! For the installed ones, the lowest I found was $1400. I dont think so, I will make one myself! LOL
Founda guy on ebay a while ago that has the y pipe. its 55 bucks...then ill buy two 90's at the truck stop here in town. Those are 33 a piece. And i think im going to use 5" flex in bed, which is another 40.
If you can get the ell's for 33 dollars and cut and weld exhaust pipe, if shipping and handleing charges are more than 11 dollars you can make your own and either break even or save money.
