Yes, & while it was blowing out the breather I would pull over put it in park & recheck it. it would only show a 1/4 inch of fluid on the dipstick & still blow out the breather
I agree with you jk080. Is there a part number on the dipstick tube that I can match with the right dipstick?
If I drain the entire tranny or the pan then put the correct amount back in I could just shorten the tube, flare the end & I should be good right?
O
does the pan hold an exact amount, or does it depend on whether its sitting/running?
I wont know which dipstick is right for your truck. You might want to start a post like "C4 dipstick length" in the older Ford truck section, perhaps someone could just go measure one they have in there truck with a C4.
My 79 f100 has a c4 the dipstick in it from tip to top of the inside of the cap is 25 3/4 inches and the full mark is 1 1/2 inches from the tip. i hope this helps. by the wy i have a tran question about mine if anyone can help. If it is cold outside about 40 or colder my trans will not pull in drive selection until it warms up for about 5 minutes. But if i put it in 1 selection it pulls fine when cold then i have to up shift to 2 then drive and its fine after that. Once the trans warm it shifts fine in drive. i was thinkin the screen is probly clogging. hoping its not the pump or converter. any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
How would the screen unclog when you put it in 1? I'm thinking the clutch seals are old, hard, and worn. Not uncommon on an old transmission. It will work in 1 because the pressure is boosted when the shifter is in 1.
