Ok, the truck's a nearly original '79 F-150 4wd with the 351M in her and I'm trying to keep her numbers matching as much as possible. I want to rebuild the engine and stroke it to a 400 to get more power out of her, but can't find the parts necessary for the upgrade. I'm also looking to change the gears to 4.11's to help increase my towing ability. She runs on gas and propane, if that helps any. Any ideas where to find some of this stuff at a reasonable price would be much appreciated.
I wouldn't worry about the matching numbers. These trucks will never be worth enough to make any difference, there were millinos made.
You should be able to find a used 400 in your local junk yards, if not try to find a more out of the way smaller yard that doesn't deal in much late model stuff. If that fails you might be able to buy a whole car for the motor for cheep. TMI is a sponcer on here and he does sell 400 cranks ready to run.
I always buy gears and axle stuff from Randy's ring & pinion.
was wondering were you live... pulling the 400 out the bronco and keeping the top end that leaves the crank rods pistons and block...going to the scrap pile
