If I remember right you have to torque them in the proper sequence (repair manual) then go back and loosen them about a 1/4 turn and then retorque them. You do this about 3-4 times. This was by the arp instructions when I did mine.
It's a long process to pre-stretch and do them right. Don't use locktite, tap the holes in the block repeatedly until no more dirt comes out. Install the studs with a slight coating of assembly lube (came with my studs) and tighten by hand with an allen wrench until they bottom out (don't crank them down super tight).

Install studs
Clean block deck with acetone
Clean head surface with acetone
Drop on head gasket
Drop on head
Very light swipe of assembly lube across stud threads with finger
Torque down in sequence and four steps 65, 85, 100, 110
Then reverse procedure and remove
Repeat three more times at a minimum, I did four.
Final install.
Yes, I used a modified 93 7.3 turbo torque spec on my head studs, but I was planning on a little extreme boost pressure.
For what it is worth, when I bougth my head studs, they had three grades.
180,000 PSI
200,000 PSI
220,000 PSI
Yes I bought the highest grade, about 3 bills if I remember right.
Never did figure out why my arm was sore the next day.
Thanks again to everyone that helped me through the install.
So i should go to 110 like dave did? I am running a banks turbo. They are ARP head studs. Don't know the rated pressure, it was the only set summit offered at the time i purchased them. And the engine is gonna be out of the truck for this process. And thanks for all the input, you fellas are great to have around.
is there any other company that might them? also iirc from what some where saying they dont make head studs for the 7.3 idi, you have to modify the 6.9s to fit?
I don't think you can modify the 6.9 head studs to fit a 7.3. 7.3 has bigger diameter head bolts. That is why you use head studs on a 6.9, for the added strength. I've been told on here. Check out DPS performance, i think i saw 7.3 studs on there. or maybe Summit, i can't remember, but i did see them somewhere.
It was DPS where i saw them, But They are proud of them. 675.00 vs. 330.00 for the 6.9 studs. Guess the steel has more gold in it or something? I'd shop around. Chances are if they have them summit does. Might have to call summit, might not be in thier online catalog.
