It would be the same if it is a idi turbo. I don't know about the powerstroke.

ARP makes Studs for the 7.3 just not in a kit form. NOT TO CAUSE Trouble but if you go over to OilBurners.net and check the IDI forums there is a sticky with critical part numbers and You can get the part numbers required and the phone number to ARP and order the required pieces. That is how I got mine. Please do n't slam me just trying to share information

I did mine in the sequence above, up to 110. Got mine through Summit, and they were the middle range ones. With the engine out, you're going to have a WAY easier time with the install.

Ok, 110 it is. I was just wondering, cause the sequence that was put up says 75. I know that is for the head bolts, but i have never messed with head studs before. thanks

You have to remember I am running milled pistons and about twice as much boost as most IDI engines.

Run them up to 100 atleast. 75 is not enough. Make sure all block, gasket, head seating surfaces are all spotless clean using a razor and thinner. Don't use Roloc abrasive discs. Follow the order loosening them up in reverse order and then retorquing them again atleast 4 times. If the head alignment dowels look cracked or weak, replace them, they're 5/8" dia.

thanks for the advice! Is 75lbs why they blow the gaskets with a turbo and stock studs?

83 model 6.9 head bolt torque 60 ft lbs.
84 model 6.9 head bolt torque 75 ft lbs
85 thru 87 6.9 head bolt torque 80 ft lbs
88 thru 94 NA 7.3 head bolt torque 100 ft lbs
93 and 94 7.3 turbo head bolt torque 110 ft lbs.

I probably went a bit overboard with mine, but I was planning going overboard with boost when I built it.

I did pull the heads and inspect the head gaskets when I blew the intake valley pan gasket just to make sure, there was no evidence of leaking at any of the fire rings, so I was happy.
Running over 20 PSI of boost on an engine that was designed as a NA motor sure was a learning experience.
And yes, it was a little expensive at times when you figure 300 in gaskets and a couple days wrenching because you blow the intake gasket and put boost into the cooling system.

ARP don't have a kit for the 7.3 IDI, only the powerstroke. You need to order the studs, washers and nuts seperately, kind of a DIY kit. Do a search here, there was a thread with all the part numbers needed.

Copied from Oilburners.com:

ARP does not offer a stud kit for our motors but... They offer a 7 inch stud. The part number is AR7.00-LB... This is a stud 1/2 13 threads on the bottom and 1/2 20 threads on the top. The nuts are ARN12-1 and the washers are ARW78N. Be careful when you install them. The instructions are to torque them tight and loosen them up 5 times. Thats a lot of work. What your doing is decreasing the friction between the threads, nut and washer. It does make a big differance in final torque. My studs and nuts moved about 3/4 turn when I was done... They also sell a great molly lube which will reduce the friction too. In their instructions they show the differance in 30 wt oil and the molly lube. The torque is 130 lbs with 30 wt oil and 100 lbs with the molly lube.
