Farm implement paint works really good. My dad brushes it on straight out of the can and it dries to a nice sheen. I have better luck by thinning it just a bit. I brush it on fast to cover a lot and then I worry about the drips. It sprays real nice, too.
For painting a whole truck...I've seen some really nice implement paint full body sprays. For a no spray application look here 50 Dollar Paint

Wow that corvair turned out pretty nice for 50 bucks. Even the 3 year update looked good all things considering.
industrial equipment paint, add hardener. roll / spray what you can.
just dont roll it too thick it wont look as nice, thinner rolls better, this paint is tough. too thick looks bad too thin wont protect as well. spray what ya can and roll the rest.
you can paint body with this also just not manny colors. good for engine parts also.
sprayed a tractor with this stuff it went on sooo thick and looked good.
it was like a chain reaction, tractor, trailer, frame X3, dump bed. still have a bunch of orange from the tractor but nothing to roll/spray.

He's got a 4 year update if you go to his main page. Still looks good. Only waxed once a year.
I have an 87 chevy sprint that has a cheap factory enamel paint job. It's faded right now, but I can spend about two hours with some colorback polish/wax and it looks almost new again. I don't think that there is any UV protection in enamel. The hardener probably doesn't add any, but I put it in there anyway. Seems to cure faster, dry shinier, and is a bit more resistant to scratches. A trip through the woods could do a number on a truck with soft paint!
