Hello all, I just wanted to know what is the best/easiest way to paint my frame. When I lowered my truck I used Por 15 paint to paint the i-beams and a little of the front portion of the frame. That stuff works really good but its on the expensive side. Im not looking to do anything major, I just want to paint it while it sits on the ground. Any and all idea would be helpfull. Thanks alot
I used duplicolor truck bed undercoat. Stuff sprays right on and works great. Just make sure you get as much rust off (if applicable) as possible and clean it before applying.
yea i bet that farm implement paint would work pretty good. I dont know if I'd want to use undercoat, what kind of finish will it give me. I dont want a real thick or bulky look, I want a more glossy smooth look
Yeah, it works very well actually. I painted my trailer with it and it still looks like the day I did it. I also did the frame on my Dumpster project and it looks nice as well. I'm curious what the undercoating looks like. Do you have any pics smashclash?
yea brush on is the way id probably want to do it so i dont have a chance of overspray, where would they sell the kind that you can brush on I only see the spray on the internet.
Farm and implement paint can have some very GOOD results. Brushing gives good results. Spraying gives EXCELLENT results. Either way i would add some hardner, to give it a more durable finish. But dont add too much otherwise it will be to hard and brittle.
When i did my Pulling truck frame, i started with a BARE and sandblasted frame. 1st i had the frame upside down on jack stands and brushed w POR 15s Chassis Black(satin). I then flipped the frame right side up and did any remaining bare spots. I then sanded the outside of the frame smooth(taking out any brush strokes) then sprayed the entire frame. It came out smooth as glass, but with just the correct sheen
As for the spray on bedliner, i dont recommend it. When it starts to lift(which it will) it will trap dirt and moisture under it and cause rot. Just like undercoat.
I've seen only one vehicle in my life that had a rolled on paint job that actually looked pretty damn good. It was done by a 75 year old retired car salesman who's been in the business since his early 20's. So, with a lifetimes worth of experience you might be able to pull off a nice job.
