ECM failure
Hey Guys I wanted to throw this diagnosis out there to see if it makes sense. f250 diesel 140k. Started up after sitting 7 day in cold weather (lows below freezing, cold for FL) anyway zero power. Drove to ford dealer and they are throwing a $2500 repair at me. They indicate that i have a bad injector (electrical portion of the injector) that has shorted out the ecm. Does this sound right. It seems real fishy to me.
Thanks

Get them to tell you (or show you) the code(s). Are they saying a harness shorted out or the short is in the injector?
Doesn't sound right to me.

To the best of what i could understand I would say the injector shorted. He said the injector shorting out caused the ecm to go.
Also, I had just plugged my truck up for the first time ever (to extension cord for cold weather). Could this have caused a short.

Who knows what can happen w/ electrical shorts. Maybe a Tech can jump in and comment on the ECM issue.

The injectors connect to the FICM. Seems odd that a short could take out the ECM/PCM but not damage the FICM.

Not saying it can't but, this would be a first that I have seen on this forum for an inj. to take out an ecm.

IF the ECM was "shorted out", I kinda doubt the truck would even run.
I think you need to take it to a different mechanic and get one that can explain things that make sense.

Call and ask to talk to the tech. I think the advisor has some wires crossed.
