I need a new ECM for an 89 460 MT. The truck sat for ten years and getting it running I found the ECM crapped out. It failed the static test and is not firing the injectors. My question is, do I hunt for OEM or settle for aftermarket? I have always been a stickler for putting FORD parts in my FORD. Are these aftermarket ECM's any good? Is there one brand better than the other? Anybody have any experience with these to share?
i got a extra one i think but i didn't pull it out of a 460 truck. if it turns out you can use it i'll send it to you. just pay shipping. i got a bunch of little computer things that came out of this dash i pulled and i need to figure out which thing is the ecm. i'm too old school
The trigger to fire the injectors actually comes from the Stator (aka PIP) sensor inside the distributor. No PIP signal means no trigger to the PCM to fire the injectors.
FWIW...there are no aftermarket PCMs, only a few remaining new units (somewhere in the world) and remanufactured ones. I do not think Ford offers re'maned PCMs anymore for these trucks.

The computer failed to communicate with the EEC test. Good strong signal from distributor but the computer is not grounding the injectors so no signal. Snacky, you're old school alright if you don't which 'thingy' is the ECM. LOL. Thanks.
All grounds checked by taking them apart and checking for/cleaning any corrosion and applying a very good quality electrical-contact-cleaner. Brought a FORD mechanic out with diagnostic tools after going over EVERYTHING for months. There is nothing else left, it's the ECM.
Do the fuel pumps run continuously with the key in run eng off? Pull the ECM and check for bad capacitors, they seem to be a problem with leaking. They are the 1/4 x 1/2" tall round things , on the ecm board. I just bought a reman ECM Cardone from ROCK Auto. Best price. Someone said you can send yours to NAPA, and Advance salesman said send it to Cardone in Orlando. Cardone was my only choice for brand - Advance auto said people aren't turning in there cores and good rebuildable units are in short supply.
