I have to agree. If your cold start issue disappears with the external gnd. on then don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If you have time to kill then I would dig deeper.
well it started right up. No issues at all. It went down to 14 last night. I think is going back down to the single digits later this week so I will try it again. If it holds out i will wait until warmer weather to dig deeper.

Suppose you replace the harness to see if it is a bad harness (all 3)....
That didn't work... so you replace the stuff at the other end...
And it turns out to be a bad connector at the FICM (often impossible to diagnose).
With the answer being to replace the FICM (since it is real hard to locate and install a replacement connector --- not impossible... but).
