I own a 1999 F250 super duty (5.4L). A few days ago it would not idle, but after a few attempts it ran and idled normal. Now, it will not idle at all. It runs good if I give it gas, but the moment I release the gas, the engine dies. My initial thought was the fuel filter, so I replaced it. Problem still exist.
After doing some research in these forums I think I might have the answer I need, but I thought I would verify this by posting my problem for a second opinion.

1. Idle Air Control valve
2. Throttle Position Sensor
Thanks
Ok. . . I replaced the IAC valve and the truck started first crank, and idles nicely. However, now another problem exists. There is a low hum of howling noise during idle and while driving, and when I let off the gas the engine surges until almost to a full stop. Is the black cap supposed to be loose?
I am not sure. Not an IAC expert since my truck doesn't have one. I would try without the cap.
Tried without the cap and it didn't correct the problem, but it did idle rough. While I was under the hood I pin pointed the noise to be the hose connected to the back of the IAC and runs around to the front of the thottle body and connects there. Between the IAC and the where it connects into the air intake, there is a (don't know what to call it) baffle. When I pinch the hose, the noise goes away. Anyone????
