I love hate mY truck

Ohh where to begin...This is my first post here on this site but i have done tonns of reading..So i bought a 2007 F350 Dually with the 6.0...My first ever diesel ever...My problems all started when i brought it in to change the oil a few months back At the end of October...1 week after i blow my egr cooler so the first thing i get done is the delete..$2600 they saw me coming.....2 weeks after that when it really got cold (I live in BC Canada) My oil Pump went and took out one of my injectors ....$3600...While talking with the mechanic he told me its because the place i got my oil change done put in 15/40 and its way too thick for my motor...Does that sound right? I now run Shells t5 10/30...Right now my truck runs great and i love it but im wondering whats next? Now i have no warrenty so it all comes out of my own pocket...Can i hold the oil Change place liable? What would you do?

1. You running tunes / mods?

Did it have signs it did have tunes before?

2. History of maintenance?

3. Oasis

4. Mileage? Warranty? Where in BC?

5. Oil cooler taking out injector????

6. EGR done without changing oil cooler?

Sounds like trouble.

What was the evidence to lead them to conclude HPOP failure?

You need a better diesel mechanic if the fella changed EGR - or delete without the oil cooler being looked at.

If the EGR cooler failure is caused by the oil cooler plugged, deleting the EGR still leaves you with a plugged oil cooler.

Wonder if that has something to do with the HPOP / Injector failure?

Did the engine get a VC-9 flush?

Long crank and no start can be many things.

What is your location?

Ambient temp?

Details?

You mean -2 or -10 C, that is 14F at the coldest...

I have had no trouble starting mine down to -20F with 15w40 oil without the block heater, and lower with the block heater.

There should be no problems with cold at that mild a climate.

There are lots of things I would have done before I did what you did... like cetane boost, antigel, etc.

What is the service history?

When was last time flushed? VC-9?

Last fuel filters change?

Last air filter change?

What coolant are you using?

Add up your 2 bills to date... and you are within shouting distance of a reman long block.

Welcome to FTE, Reaper7

Regarding the question you asked, I don't think you can hold the oil place liable for putting 15w/40 oil in your truck since that's what is recommended by the manufacturer.

In your neck of the woods, T-6 syn. 5W40 would also be a good choice of oil and use only Racor/Motorcraft filters for your oil and fuel.
