My poor little f150 is real sick, it gave me 80k miles of trouble free mileage, then monday after the weekend I jumped in to go to work and turned the key,and it would'nt turn over like it was stuck half way or the batt was dead, then after a few tries it fired and now I have a knocking ticky noise. The computer threw a misfire # 6 cylinder code. My theory is the injector hung filled the cyl. w/ gas and when I turned I bent a con rod heres a link to the noise if I can post it. YouTube - 100 2036 Thanks for any help in advance.
Wow that sounds bad.Definetly sounds like a bent rod slapping up against the inside of the piston or the piston skirt hitting the counter balancer on the crank. Just can't amagine how much gas would have leaked into the cylinder to cause hydraulic lock. 1 or 2 ounces isn't going to doit especially after sitting. Gas would either evaporate or leak thu the rings.
I got that theory from a ford mechanic and it sounded good,I've only heard that happening w/ carb motors w/ the float geting stuck.I mainly believe it because of the strange noise it made right before the noise started. The noise seems louder than it is in the vid however. I read somewhere last nite I could un plug the coil wires one at a time and it would tell me what cyl it is. but I guess I wont really know till I pull it.Now at least I have a reason to use my hoist
Sounds like it broke a spring and dropped the valve down in the cylinder.
Start with pulling the valve covers and see.
As cheep as the rods are they normally break not bend.
I know a guy had a 4.6 sounded like that. It was some kind of valve problem. Fords even had a tool 100$ to reinsert a retainer with out take much apart . I'll get a hold of him and ask what exactly it was. I did hear the engine and it sounded just like that. As for the fuel filling a cylinder the key would have to been on so the pump would run to fill a cylinder.
I had similar problems like that and noises in my 4.6 before it finally locked up on me... Hopefully its not that bad for you. I tried letting it go for awhile saying ill fix it eventually. I had a cylinder 4 misfire and egr problems etc from oil blowby getting bad, and smoke out the pipes. Pay close attention see if you notice a difference if take off etc, check your fluids religiously now to track.
Listen for loud pinging turing takeoffs and finally that real hard knock before it dies on you in the middle of the highway... ;( Thats when mine finally gave out, but I kept "putting off" fixing the problem for ..... 20000-25000 miles. Mine started with slight noises. Not sure if itll help Hope all goes well man
It was a bent rod ,the ticking noise was the bowed rod rubbing against the bore,it rubbed a little notch in the bottom of the bore and rubbed a shiny spot in the rod. the loss of compression probably caused the miss fire trouble code. Im not sure what caused the hydro lock, probably fuel. The sad part is the motor otherwise was in great shape the bearing surfaces were like new as were the bores the still had the crosshatch marks and the pistons slid out. I would rather swap in another long block. C/l has one, an 05 3v but I have to figure out how tuff that would be to swap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG_NEPgDteo
