Last Tuesday I drove my truck all day and it was absolutely fine- it has not moved since due to the holidays. I jumped in this morning and immediately noticed the o/d light was blinking. Figured it was dirty terminals so i cleaned them- no dice. At any rate, I figured I would head to the corner store to get some needed items and deal with it a little later.
This is when I found out the truck will not shift out of first gear. Checked fluid and it looks fine. Tried a couple more times, I did not take it past 2.5k rpm, and nothing.
Do you think something went horribly wrong in it sitting for a week? Could a bad VSS be the culprit (speedo works fine)? maybe a fuse? I am hoping it is something electrical and just want to know what you all think I should check before I take it to the tranny shop. Thanks!!
Thanks Marv! I'm always around, just not posting much.
I searched the threads, but they are kind of all over the place. Wanted to see if I could get a check list of simple things put together real quick (i.e. fuses, wires, napa part# for vss). I'm still trying to hunt down my buddy with the scanner, but this could be a problem due to the holidays.
This is just not a good time at all for this to be happening...
Well, I haven't had any luck getting a hold of a buddy with a scanner so I went down to see my transmission guy. They are closed until Monday, and he want to tear into it.
In D, it will not shift out of first. I can manually shift in from 1-2, but if i go into D from there, it is like putting it in N.
Do you guys think it is a stuck solenoid or something in the VB? I am wondering if I can get away with just ordering a replacement VB and doing it myself.

I wouldn't tear into anything without the codes first. IMO, it is usually a ploy to get you to fix the trans with them. Once the trans is apart, they have you. You can't leave. Worst case scenario, you pay them to put it all back together, at which point, they will tell you that it is best rebuilt by them. Try getting information from Brian at BTS. They MIGHT be able to help you narrow it down further. After all, if the trans is shot, why even take it apart?
