Very simply put, You don't need a huge volume IC (like a 7.3/6.0 cooler) to push 12-15 lbs of boost thru it. A smaller, more EFFICIENT cooler will serve you much better.
These turbos that we run on our trucks are running very close to the edge of the turbos efficiency ratings. Most people install a 7.3 IC loose 3-4 psi of boost. Then they adjust the wastegate, pushing the turbo out of it's efficiency curve. Making More Heat.
A small EFFICIENT bar and plate IC with minimal pressure drop is what you should look for. Spearco, HKS, ect.
all of those people that say they loose 3-4psi also report a noticable increase in performance. don't confuse psi loss with efficiency gain. ya it is cool to be able to say you run "x" psi, but i would rather run 5psi with and IC than 10 psi without an IC.
even when we do crank up the boost of the turbo to compensate for the pressure loss across the IC the ic can still handle it just fine. out stock engine are not running close to what the factory set-up psd's are running with these ic's. i believe some idi guys have used the 6.0L cooler and reported ZERO pressure drop and no issues with turbo lag.

agreed! this is my searching results as well, searching the net for a few hours with things such as "how to choose intercooler size" "importance of intercooler and piping size for engine and turbo" and the like.
i wouldn't put the 7.3l psd/6.oh no in my truck if the cooler was free, after researching.

price & lack of research.
(NMB2 being exempt, due to his much modified engine.it likely is perfect for his turbo and boost levels.)
