Just to be clear, we are talking about the older original Insight, right? NOT the newer CT or CTS.

ya it is a original style, it confused me too when the disc it came with says insight on but it downloaded the fusion software too. when it is hooked up to the pc the insight software says no insight connected to usb port. but with the fusion software it will say that the 83400 has been detected and no new updates are needed. the screen of the insight ,dash unit, will change form red to greeen. but no text.

It's normal to not see any text on the LCD when connected to a PC. Just a blank screen.

I have the instructions in PDF if anyone wants them. They are on your CD if you know where to look for them.

Make sure you are ONLY connected via USB, or ONLY connected to the vehicle cable, but not both at once.

If you have access to another PC, you might want to try installing the software. Especially if you can use a Windows XP machine. Anything USB can be flaky at times.

Be sure to use the USB cable that came with the unit, not a generic one. Connect directly, not through a USB hub, which might be a keyboard or monitor plug.

Not much help, I know. It's all I got.
