Edge insight

Im considering buying an edge insight... Honestly I dont know why cause this trucks computer is going to take care of everything but I love on screen info..Ive seen posts on monitoring regens and the ability to clear codes too. What have most guys or girls gone with- the smaller or bigger screen? For those that have smaller screen ,do you find it hard to read whats on the screen? Is the same amount of info on the screen no matter the screen size? For those that have the bigger unit is it a problem being in your line of sight? I cant tell if both units are aprox the same size because the smaller screen looks to have some navigation buttons on the side of it and the larger does not.Does that mean the larger is a touch screen or are the nav buttons on the side? Also do I need any other accessories with it?It comes with mount correct?
Oh and one more thing ,this is prolly a stupid question but this in no way shape or form will void my warranty in ANY way correct?Just want to be on the safe side.lol...Thanks

I have the insight cts (larger screen) and am pretty happy with it. It's the touch screen model so all the actual buttons on the unit with the smaller screen are now on the touch screen to help navigate through the menus. It comes with a suction cup window mount, so you won't need to buy anything else, but I went with the dash pod. They actually don't make a dash pod for the 11-12 models, but you can use the one for the 08-10 and slightly modify it to fit the dash (very easy, only need to shave off one or two tabs).

My dealer couldn't care less about my Edge Insight, They know it does no programing, so there is no concern about warranty. The Edge Evolution ( looks the same) does offer programing. But any tech can touch a couple of buttons and see which unit you have. So no the Insight will not void your warranty and if you have an uneducated dealer that does not know the difference. It shouldn't be too hard of an education to enlighten them that the unit does not change programing.

The Edge CT is not color and not Touch screen. The CTS is color and is touch screen Get the CTS. Not a big deal in the corner of the windshield. No vision impairments.

No added accessories. Just hook it up to your computer and make sure it is current on the software before installing it in the truck. I don't know how up to date Edge is on what firmware is installed when you get it out of the box. I had to call edge and talk to them, They took my S/N and when I logged in a second time, I got a more complete software upgrade that included more features for my truck. But the 6.7L had only been out a few months when I installed mine. Edge may be more stable in their firmware now.

The CTS will accept some other accessories, One I added was a Back up camera that I positioned on the back on my trailers. My navigation show my truck back up camera, The Edge CTS displays whats behind my trailer. I just bought a back up license plate camera off ebay and plugged it into the Edge. It only works in reverse like the factory ford camera.

Buy the CTS.

You're right, the truck knows everything but if you're a gadget person and want to monitor information, this is the device to have.
My truck is the basic XLT so I don't have the optional (fancy) dash display so didn't have EOT or TFT.

PH covered it all though.

That's better than I did.
I paid $448.87 to my door in Aug '11 but that was direct from Edge.

Whats the brand of your backup camera? I would like to put one on the back of my travel trailer when backing.. My tt is 35 feet.. I see one from boyo on amazon.if you connect the camera to a constant hot wire is there a way to see through the camera even when not in reverse?Did you route the camera rca through the firewall and into the edge?

I've had the Edge CTS Insight for a couple of weeks now. No problems with the installation or updating firmware. Hooked it up and it just works. I have the dash pod.

It's interesting to watch things like the exhaust temps (EGT1 pre-catalyst and EGT4 post DPF). I also monitor the DPF Soot level. The soot level will give you an idea of the type of driving that causes frequent regens. After a regen it will drop down to somewhere between 1.05 and 1.23, then slowly creep up. Once it hits 2.66 to 2.70, it will start a regen cycle if you're driving the truck over 35 MPH. You'll also see EGT1 jump up to around 780 degrees and EGT4 will show around 1300 degrees.

I also modified the default CTS screen overlay (see image below). I did away with the "Power Level" label at the top of the screen to avoid hassles with the dealer. Also added the Ford logo with some Ford blue thrown in on the up/down arrow and menu buttons.

If anyone is interested in a copy of this overlay, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

Matt

Romeo, your PM's are not active, I sent an email. If you did not recieve, please let me know. I like your customizations. Did you have to use a hex editor to make those modifications?

Have the exact questions. AND what the connector would look like between the truck and trailer (weather proof?)

I know it does not program but still leery of hooking it up. Guess I should talk to my dealer to make sure they understand.......................

That is sweet looking. I'd love to have mine look like that. Love the logo you added.

whats really sad.

FORD could do the same as the EDGE in the center display easily. They could allow customers to customize their center display to show what they want.
90% of what it displays I could care less about. I would rather be able to show things like the nice Edge display above.

But they chose not to.

It would be a fantastic selling point I would think.
