I have a 04 with 33k mileage on it. New egr, filters bla bla bla. Recently the truck started with a dead spot between 1250 rpm and 1750 rpm. When you get above that it seems to go away. No codes. Local mechanic said he had trouble with codes since he doesn't see many of these as they just came out of warrenty. But the closest he could come was a problem with the #4 cylinder somewhere. He suggested to take it to the dealer. Maybe an injector problem? I'm not a mechanic just would like an idea of what it could be so I can prep and bend over when it goes to the dealer.
My truck recently had a similar issue, it started running rough, like it was missing, and it was at low rpms like yours, my truck didnt throw any codes but it did end up being a bad #8 injector, you could feel the truck shake if you started it, opened the door and slowly pressed the accelerator till you felt the miss,
I was having the same problem while plowing snow, off idle stumble that cleared with more throttle. I got the p0299 code. Yesterday my dealer replaced one faulty injector and cleaned the turbo. Runs mint now.
33K mile 04 with a dead spot at those RPM's screams turbo to me. It's probably suffering from a severe case of lot rot (rusty turbo internals). Just a guess but seen it too many times.
Probably not. I'm half-assed mechanical but my business has me too busy. All everyone is saying makes sense to me. I'm betting dirty turbo ot injector. I bought the truck with 27k on it last year. The old owner only put 27 k on it in 7 years.
