I was just on the phone with an Edelbrock tech. Asking about the AIR-GAP spec's ect. He wanted to know what engine series I was asking about, I said well that's the problem. BLA BLA BLA Anyway he says that Edelbrock is very aware of this. He said that mid Januarry Edelbroc has their Futures meating, Engineers Tech , R&D from all dept attend this meating, including Mr. Vic Edelbrock Jr. himself. Everything that Edelbrock makes has to have Vics OK. They are looking at both the FE & 385 series engines. He said that both engines were talked about, but that no date was set when to build. I hope that the FE will not be overlooked and Edelbrock only builds the 285 series. FTE group can go back and forth with the pro's and con's of an air-gap but if Edelbrock overlooks us FE owners it will be another kick in the growing for all FE enthusiest. I hope we can all e-mail Edelbrock and show our support .
thanks to everyone....
That is cool. That is the first I have heard anything positive about the situation. And just think, we probably had a big part in the whole thing. We will have to wait and see. I agree, the Air Gap might not be the right thing for everybody but its another choice for us FE folk.
Although I do not feel the need for the air gap intake I think it is great that everyones rallying twards edelbrock has helped (?) I sent them an Email so I can say I did my part ..it would be nice to see some new products for the 'ol FE ..might even cause a chain reaction and other companys may want a piece of the pie ..we shall see!!
I sure hope they make it. I want a 4 barrel SOOO bad I can taste it. I cant even find a stock 4 barrel. I would be happy with that.
So they need to hurry up. Anybody got a 4 barrel they dont need, let me know
Woohoo!!! Maybe I'll wait for it now. It'll give me time to get everything else done how I want it on the engine I'm building. (read: get money for everything I want and cant afford now) Hope I dont have to wait too long!
I was just reading in my January issue of Hot Rod that Crower was doing a small block build and compared a few intakes. I know these are chevy items but the results suprised me none the less. They had a victor, RPM Air gap and some other wierd brand single plane and the RPM gap netted them the most torque at 4,000rpm. I think that is just "plane" impressive beating the victor at that high of an RPM.
I have the test that Mopar Muscle did. I wish I knew how to transfer the dyno results. They tested five intakes all out of the box except for the Torker 11 it had been gasket matched, mild plenum masaging and a heat sheild underneath. These intakes tested, 1-Edel Performer, 2-Edel Air-Gap, 3- Mopar/Holley Six Pack, 4-Edel Torker 11, 5-Holley Strip Dominator. These intakes were tested on a well built 360 small block Chry. The Six Pack and the Holley Strip Dominator did not show high HP or Torque highs anywhere on the Dyno. The Performer made more HP & Torque at 3,000 & 3,200 but that was the only RPM range. The real battle was between the Air Gap & Torker 11(remember the torker was the only modified intake). From 3,400 thru 5,000 the Air Gap made as much as 17.8 MORE HP (at 4,200 rpm) and as much a 22.10 MORE torque (at 4,200) also. At 5,00-5,800 the torker does kick butt, but only between 1.3 HP to 5.8 HP and 1.3 -6.9 torque. Then at 6,000 it sort of evens out in both HP and torque with the torker less than 1/2 HP more and less than 1/2 torque more. This dyno only shows what Edelbrock is doing with their Air Gap and why it is called their " Killer " series. It show a longer and wider HP and Torque curve than anyother intake on the market, this is what computor design can do..Todd
