I have a 96 F-350 with diesel, on the driver side of the fuel filter can there is a sending unit that is leaking fuel. I have no idea what this is, can someone tell me what it is? So I can get the part to replace it.
thanks Ron
If it's this one it is called the "fuel filter vacuum switch", or something like that. It senses a vacuum in the filter when the filter becomes plugged up. They are a known problem for leakage out by the electrical connection. I think Ford current cost is about $50 and you can get the same part for about $25 from International ...
If you get one don't tighten it up to much. Just hand snug then maybe another half turn. You can easily crack the filter housing if to much torque is applied.
So it sounds like it is not needed. I change my fuel filter pretty regular with this bio-diesel. I have owned this truck for 10 years and never seen any light come on about the fuel filter.
Thanks for the help RB
