Hey guys, I'm not looking to do any real mods til the spring atleast, but when I do I am considering getting a chip. I don't know a ton about chips, so i'm looking to learn some more. I have a 96 f250 PSD extended cab long bed. It's my daily driver so I use it for a lot of different things. I have a boat that I tow with it, but it's only 18 feet (about 2000 lbs) so that's not a huge deal. I'm hoping to do more heavy duty towing with it in the future (bigger boats, equipment trailer, other vehicles etc...) Other than that I mostly use it for construction (carrying drywall, plywood etc...). Mainly I'm just looking for added power and torque without sacrificing too much gas mileage. I wouldn't mind some added speed also, but I wont get greedy. Of course this wont be my only mod so if anyone has other suggestions feel free to let me know. I'll probably upgrade the exhaust, maybe injectors etc... Just wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with any chips and what type of thing would be best suited for my needs. As always, thanks guys.
I put a DP Tuner F8 in mine.
My tunes were,
No Start
Stock
60 HP economy
80 HP mountains
100 HP performance
Truck runs great, mileage actually went up if I drive normally using the right tune.
With the E4OD tranny,
60 HP economy seems like stock tranmission shift strategy, just more power.
80 HP mountain tune transmission strategy made a trip through the WV mountains a real pleasure cruise.
100 HP performance is geat for out on the interstate, but the transmission shift strategy don't let OD kick in often on the two lane local roads with the turns and twists and low speeds.
And I have three extra positions if I want to add a couple towing tunes.
What sold me was the Destiny programmer plugs in where the switch is now.
That lets me buy and install a new tune with my laptop without removing the chip.
Just buy the tune, down load it and install, fire it up and drive the truck on the new tune.
Sure sounded better than pull the chip, send it in for a reburn, wait for it to get back and reinstall it.
I already did a Diamond Eye 3" to 4" exhaust with no muffler and 6637 mod before I installed the chip, and they should probably be your first mods as well.
More air before more fuel, and the stock equipment leaves a lot to be desired.
