Fuel problems

1985 f250 6.9 diesel could a bad fuel pump be causing it to Ron like its flooding ?

Define "flooding" when it comes to your truck. Technically it's impossible for a diesel to "flood" like a gasser does.

Almost like its getting way too much fuel I guess it's being starved but the smell from the exhaust makes me think its getting too much

The throttle on a diesel just adds fuel. There is no butterfly valve restricting air intake. More fuel = more throttle.
A bad fuel pump will make it surge, die, sputter, not want to start, etc.

I took the air filter off to get it home. It ran much better then lol. But now it's doing the same crap so I'm changing the pump out. I love the fact that the pump was only 20 bucks new
