Sometimes on my o2 excursion when I turn the key and when it turns over there is a slight delay. She also eats batteries so I wonder if they are related. I have changed the alternator (More than once) so I don't think that's draining the batteries. Every winter as soon as it gets cold I have the problem. I don't know if it's the batteries being weak that causes the delay or the starter is draining the batteries.

Slight delay of what ??? It clicks but doesn't crank for a second or it does nothing and then after a second or two it starts to crank. Either one of those scenarios is usually caused by a starter that is starting to go bad--Replace it before it leaves you stranded in the middle of nowhere !!!

I turn the key and there is a pause before the starter turns over. It only seems to do it when it's cold out or been sitting a few days.
I'd clip a meter probe to the starter. If it gets juice the moment you turn the switch, then the problem is a mechanical delay in the starter, otherwise the problem is before the starter, like one of the relays/solenoids.
