A buddy of mine has a E series with a 7.3 in it. He can't start it in the morning without pluging it in(it was only 40deg) ? I've never owned a van that was diesel but I think 40deg it should still start after the key has been turned on for the proper amount of time b4 start? The truck runs fine any other time. Any ideas?
How many miles on the van? When it first starts up, does it miss or run a little rough? When it does start, how much smoke is there and what color is it? The 7.3 should start at 40 deg. even without glow plugs. Might be a bunch of white smoke, but it should start. Worn injectors can also cause starting problems that plugging it in seems to fix.
He said white smoke was coming out. Yea we were thinking glow plugs or some thing in the system. I will ask him about the miles and tell his lazy *** to join
My truck has 160k+ miles on it now and still starts good. I do ohm out the glow plugs and check voltage drop across the GPR (glow plug relay) every fall. When the temps get into the teens or colder I also wait 10-15 seconds after the WTS (wait to start light) goes out before attemping to start.
