November 2010 - General Chat Thread!
I'm back out in LA...flew in last evening...
I have been up for hours...been to gym and showered and headed to breakfast here in a bit...then I have a 6:30am (my time) 1 hour teleconference before heading to office...busy day already...
Thanks for the well wishes...I know it is no trophy...but this deer truly is special to me since my little girl was there with me and I know it is something she will always remember!
Joe.
Here is a pic of it with my buddies doe.
My son harvested his first deer Sarturday. We called this little buck to 15 yards and he uncorked the 44 mag on him and he dropped in sight 50 yards from the stand.
Amongst my few wall hangers, this will go down as tied for 1st with his twin sisters first deer last year as my #1 favorite trophy harvest memory in my life. Well my daughters first turkey this year is also tied with those I suppose....

Here is my 11 year old son Nicholas. His first deer, a spike.
His twin sister, Kaitlin. Her first deer from last year.
Her first Turkey from this year. And a true mature trophy by the book too: 28mm spurs, 10 1/2" beard, 20#.
....these first harvests are so precious, I sure hope you all don't mind me sharing, just can't hold back on the youngens.

side note: they don't know it, but I just realized that they both were wearing the same hat when they harvested their first deer. I need to swipe it and put it up in the safe. Then one day when I'm old and grey, get it out and have them look at the pictures all over again with a different view and point out the hat. Being twins they are attached at the hip and would probably enjoy that one day. I'm not superstitious, nor do I believe in luck, per se, but this wasn't planned at all.
Nebo...what amazing memories you have with your kids...and what amazing memories your kids have for life with DAD!!!...you should be proud of how well you have done teaching your kids to respect the game we hunt by teaching them to shoot cleanly and safely!
As an aside...I was able to try a new gutting aide that my buddy had and has been swearing by it for the last few years...It has to do with clearing out the **** area...one of the most tedious areas to mess with...to use a pun...it is a pain in the BUTT!
Anyway...the tool is about $10 at Gander Mountain with free shipping...I do NOT work for Gander Mountain...but using it truly was a snap (or twist if you will). Here's the link Gander Mountain® > Hunters Specialties Butt Out II - Hunting > Hunting Accessories > After the Shot > Field Care : it is called "Butt Out" and I tell you what...it is sure worth the $10 IMO.

I picked up one of those last year and you are right, it makes that end of the deal much easier!!

I've been to the gym and got a great workout in...showered and ready to start my first teleconference call...it is amazing how much us folks on eastern time zone get done before these pacific time zone folks even wake up!
Looks like I am planning on getting out Friday morning for another hunt...lots of doe's out there still and the county I hunt has a 4 antlerless limit!
Have a great day!
Joe.
