As they say, a Picture is worth 1000 words. Without further delay:

No PS belt, brake pedal a bit low, and needs some tune up work. But, I did bring it by the house for a little while this evening......

Engine Removed and Apart,Now What?

I pulled the 460 from my 85 f250 4x4 That I bought in May. Cheap!
It ran rough so I did a compression ck. found #6 no comp.
I knew engine was tired, So I pulled it out figuring it had at least a burnt
valve on #6 But when I pulled the heads off I found it had been overheated and at one time The piston and rings on #6 had stuck to the
cylinder and there is what looks to be a crack about 3inches long running around the cylinder, so now I get to make a decision -find another 460? or put somthing else in

Here is what my 26 year old pickup is capable of, the Mrs. wanted to buy a little something for the den, no problem. Went to a town 26 miles away and nearly 100 degrees, turned the AC on, set the cruise control @ 68 mph, all is good. At the store something caught the Mrs. eye, a sofa, love seat, coffee table, two end tables, two lamps and a few other items & she says, " will they all fit in the pickup?". To make a long story short I had to make two trips in this heat, but you know what, the old pickup never missed a beat in the 100+ miles, now that makes all the work worth it for me.

Yeah, gotta buy a few parts before making the trip. Prolly oughtta get different tires on the rear, as those are date coded from 2000.....
Haven't told dad I took it for a short drive, yet. But when I do, he'll be pretty happy.

I used my custom fab'd farm quality yoke spreader... worked like a charm, gonna eat some lunch and put the axle back in the truck. All the bearings and seals are already replaced for the spindle as well. Just time to reassemble. Good thing too, been working on it since Tuesday. Need it to drive out to the early 4th party tomorrow, lowered Mustangs dont too well in the fields.

Dad: Guess what?
Me: I give up.
Dad: Got the new title in the mail today.
Me: Cool. Guess what?
Dad: I give up.
Me: I went for a short drive in the truck last night.
Dad: D#@%, you just HAD to top my good news, didn't ya?

I just happened to be pulling into the parking lot at O'reilly's when he called. I went inside to get the belts and PS hose/fluid, while "rudely" talking on the phone at the same time. I told the kid it was ok, since I was "confering" with the truck's original owner......
Had to cut that call a bit short, but called him back when I got home, and talked for a good 45 minutes.
I believe he's proud......

Great-looking tank of a truck! From back when trucks were trucks. Is that some kind of built-in tool box on the lower passenger side bed?

Yep. Had one just like it on my '72. Not big, but just right for the tools I needed.

Yes sir. Only available on long beds, styleside. It sits just under the floor of the bed, and is as deep as the frame rail will allow. Was a "curbside" only item.
Ford offered them in the 60's and 70's. First truck I ever saw one in, was about a 1964 model. I dunno if they were available prior to that time.
I wish it was offered in the 80-86 models. They're handy as a pocket on a shirt.

Got the driver's side just about put back together....Moldings on, sidemarker in, tail light lens in, door glass back in, all the anti rattle and weather stripping is also back in, THe back glass has also been installed, and the mirror on the drivers side.

Hoping to get the passenger side buttoned up monday, after a trip to the local JY.

Axle is back together... Drives great, a/c topped off. Alternator decided to die on the road trip. Good thing I keep a few spares.
