I would think it is a safe bet to say it would not work.
The engineering numbers denote a design change between the two.
What that design change entails, I don't know. It could be as simple as the plastic they used changed, or complex enough change to make it incompatible.
Mike could look up the one for a 1976 and see though, as the enginnering number should be cross refferenced like it was for the 1977.
D6AA-9D844 is not a full engineering number either, it's missing it's suffex.
the suffix for the part is AA and I have a 1979 not a 1976. I am going to pull the old module sometime in the next couple of days and see if they are the same.
This is whats listed for a '76
Fits 75-77 F100-350
D6AZ-9D843-A marked D6AF-9D844-AA
There you have it, it's a safe bet it won't work for you, I'm afraid, according to the parts book, mike has.
D6AA-9D844-AA
does not match the one for 1975-1977.
D6AF-9D844-AA
or the one for 1977 from serial s/n Z00,001, and 1978-1979.
D7AE-9D844-AA
So you need one marked, D7AE-9D844-AA, for it to fit in your 1979 and work.
P.S: I know you don't have a 1976, but the enginering number of the part you wanted info about has a 1976 prefix. D6AA. I only have a parts book or 1980 to 1984, but I know a little on how they work.
You can look back to 1976 and see if the part number and engineering number was used or had been updated and will work and is the same 1975-1979. The info I got from mike's posts is they are not the same and wont work. The part you have wont work with any 1975-1979 according to the information I have from mike. It most likely belongs to a car.
Okay, thanks for digging and finding out the specifics for me. I got that module for a good price to replace mine since my cruise stopped working for no apparent reason. I guess I will need to find a different module. Does anyone know of a good cruise control trouble shooting guide?
