Does anyone out there know why my '93 f250 with the 7.3 IDI would be constantl surging while on cruise?
Whe I set the Cruise, i can feel the peddel and see the tack surg usally it is only a small amount but it does it only while the cruise is on, not while using the foot feed. With a gas job I would be looking for a vacume leak, but I dont see where there would be vacume going to the cruise controler( am I wrong??)
Thanks for any help!!
Mines been doing this and you can see the speedometer move some while on cruise. haven't found the problem yet changed speed sensor on trans. checked vaccum. check electrical. total loss on problem. Just don't use cruise anymore
.
I've never had that problem (yet) with either of my Ford diesels, but it's happened on two of my GM diesels. Both times it was a bad vacuum-motor servo - that hooks to the throttle. I assume the surge evolves because the pod gets a leak, so it won't hold a steady position, and when the vehicle speed drops a little, more vacuum is sent to it - and thus the surge.
With my Fords, I don't even know if they use vacuum pods for the cruise-control - I've never had to look that close yet. I've got an 85 with a 6.9 and a 94 with a 7.3 turbo.
Hello Merlin, I was just thinking that maybe a faulty dump valve or a crack in the printed circuit board on the cruise amplifier.
On my '85 F-250 6.9 the actuator is both electrical and uses vacume.
I recently fixed the coffee can that had a small defect in the seam. If I had to look at it I would say that it was fine, but, when I put the vacume to it it would leak badly. I finally saw the area that the solder was not sealing the seam and used rosin core solder and my soldering gun to fix it. I did most of the seam just to make sure.
On my '85 Mercedes 300 D, the most common problem with cruise control is the cruise amplifier. It gets cracks in the PC board and causes intermittent cruise such as yours. The fix is to remove the board and resolder all the solder lines and connections.
Anyway, just a few thoughts. Hope it all works out.
this may sound stupid but are your tires of stock size. When I put on 38" tires I would turn on my cruise and it would do the same thing. Even tho that was a very big change in tire size, I found even a little bigger would do that to my truck. But mine is a 99' don't know if its the same cruise setup.
