Split-Exhaust manifold

Found/bought a good set of OE Ford EF exhaust manifolds at a nice price. I don't want a dual-exhaust so what do I need to terminate these into single exhaust pipe?

I've been reading some of the posts about this manifold, but didn't see one 'into single exhaust'. Lotsa bolt-hole questions! I did see one answer about using 2.5" exhaust pipe which is what I was thinking about. Need Cat here. What is a nice sounding but not loud muffler for this?

Thanks for any advice/tips. I appreciate the help

Dave

Hi Dave,
The Walker Y-Pipe (usually about $80 shipped) is a common solution. Part number is WLK-45166

It's a pretty lengthy piece of pipe too, and runs all the way back and up over the transmission mount. (In the second picture, it's the pipe at the top. The other is a tailpipe.)

As for exhaust, be sure to check out the Exhaust sticky out in the forum. Quite an extensive bit of sounds and video of various exhaust systems.

Excellent! Need the flanges to fit into the 45166....any source for them? Thanks
Is the tailpipe a stock item or muffler shop made?

Are you meaning the flanges to bolt onto the manifolds? All you need are the studs for the manifolds, as well as the necessary hardware (bolts). Other than that, it has everything.

As for the tailpipe, it's an aftermarket mandrel bent piece. It's for a Bronco (so wouldn't fit your F-100), but they have them available for that too.

Here's some miscellaneous ones for you to sift through.

I see what you mean. Enlarged photo and now see the flanges are built on the pipe. Looking at the engine photo made me think the flanges were separate pieces. 5-studs for head bolt-up came with the manifolds. Just need donuts, tailpipe, Cat and muffler. Thanks

No prob. Sounds like a fun project.

Won't need a donut though, the EFI manifolds use a "ball and socket" type system that doesn't need one.

no donuts to seal exh pipe to manifold flange?

I'm gonna call around local yards to see if I can get a good 'Y' converter for cheap. If not I'll get a 45166 from RA....$82 total cost. Least expensive from local parts is $96 total cost.

I'll have to get a 2.5Cat, some muffler and a TP bent, but that's ok. As long as I can get the manifolds/Y-pipe installed then I can clamp rest until get to muffler shop for bending a TP.

I've been hunting for the exhaust sticky, but I can't find........

thanks

The stock Y converter is a little different, but it's still a 2 into 1.

ok....got my converter pipe today. Need a 2.5" Cat. Anyone got any part #s for that? Searching is hard since this isn't a normal piece for my truck. With a number I can prolly match another brand. Maybe muffler number would be good too. I'll get a 2.5" TP bent by a muffler guy. I can install everything in the driveway and then deal with the TP. Thanks

Can't help with part numbers, but most parts houses carry a universal type cat in many pipe sizes.
As for muffler, I'm rather fond of the sound from my flowmaster 40. No cat, FM40, and full 2.25 pipe exiting behind the rear wheel is quiet inside the cab with windows up, but can be heard with them down, but still not loud. Very nice tone, without excessive noise.

I'm using a Walker 2.5" cat. WLK-15038
Works great, and helped me pass local emissions with my 4bbl.

Thanks AB for the Walker #. Cat needed here because it is OE on the truck. No emissions test here other than having OE pieces in place.....don't have to actually work, just be visible. Gonna see about a Walker QF muffler though RA. Once I get these 2 pieces finalized I'll deal with the cluster job.
