Passenger door glass brackets
Passenger door glass brackets
On my 2000 F250 crew cab the front passenger door glass brackets have came off the glass. These are the two u shaped brackets at the bottom of the glass that bolt to the regulator. Does anyone know of a good adhesive to reattach them to the glass? The glass shops just want to replace the whole window assembly. I have thought about JB Weld since it says it bonds metal and glass.
The urathan won't hold unless you can prime both parts, and yes even with the primerless. I don't really think that it will hold tho in the long run. We use a two part epoxy, so I would think that the jb weld should work, but haven't used it on glass before. If you take a steel wool, or fine sand paper and lightly scuff the glass before using the jb it should hold up well.
the u418 will hold. done it many times. primer urethane will hold also but its probably harder to find when your not in the business. epoxy is good, but not jb weld. Seems when customers tried to fix it themselves and didnt hold it always has jb weld on it. Cleaning and scuffing the glass will help.
I cant believe you cant find a glass company to fix it. Did you try just taking the window and the brackets to them? Make sure you mark the glass where the brackets were.

yes its made by Dow or Essex. You'll probably only find 3m. I would take just the parts to a glass shop and ask them to glue it with urethane or the proper epoxy so you dont have to find or buy a whole tube. Let them know you dont expect a warranty

DavidB, do you have a suggestion on a metal/glass epoxy? Seems folks around here aren't knowledgable about this. All they want to do is replace with new parts instead of fix what is good.
I ended up cleaning the glass with rubbing alcohol then putting the 3M type mounting tape (it's the foam tape about 1/8" thick from Wal-Mart) on one side of the glass. Then mixing up J-B Weld and filling the bracket with it and pushing it over the tape (it is a tight fit). Rolled the window all the way up tight. Let set for minimum 24 hours to cure. So far after a month it's holding good. We'll see what the winter temperatures does to it.
Made it through the winter. We had large snows and temperatures well below zero in NW Arkansas. Repair held good. We are now experiencing temperatures near 100. Will be going to Florida for 2 months starting next week. We'll see how it holds up under the heat and humid conditions.
