Hello! Where’s the New Ford Taurus?
Ford announced a proverbial crap ton of new vehicles last year (that’s 24, to be exact), and they’re going to follow up with another 15 this year. We’ve already seen, and will soon drive, the new Ford Edge.
The new Ford Explorer has been shown off and will hit dealerships shortly after the Edge. A new Mustang and F-150 bowed last year at dealerships. One vehicle that seems to be missing from all of this news is a new, redesigned Ford Taurus. Is there one coming?
The Taurus last saw a major redesign for the 2010 model year, which really doesn’t seem like that long ago. The Ford Explorer, which will go on sale later this year, debuted it’s previous design for the 2011 model year.
The Ford Explorer and Ford Taurus share similar components, so it would seem likely that the Taurus would be somewhere in the design pipeline.
Technically speaking, the Taurus did receive a very minor refresh for 2013 that included MyFord Touch. But with how quickly Ford is refreshing all of their models to a newer design language, the Taurus is getting a bit long in the tooth.
One of the biggest criticisms I’ve heard on the Taurus is the lack of space. The Ford Fusion has 102.8 cu/ft of passenger volume as a mid-sized car.
The bigger, full-sized, Taurus only has 102.2 cu/ft of passenger volume. A redesign of Taurus could address those space concerns and bring some of the new Ford power plants into the fold.
Hopefully it’s one of the new cars this year, and hopefully they keep the high-performance SHO model!
