TSB 26-2086 (10R140 shift quality) - Anyone had it done?
Hi All,
The question is in the title... has anyone had the TCM / PCM update done on their 2023-2024 trucks for TSB 26-2086? I've encountered hearsay about the 2026 trucks having a more refined transmission calibration and I'm assuming (knowing the risks of making assumptions) that this TSB applies that same programming.
I haven't been the most pleased with the shift quality on my 2024, even after several relearn cycles. It's not horrible, but I feel like it could be quite a bit better. So I'm wondering if anyone had had this done and could report on the outcome? I don't have the DTCs the TSB references, so I doubt my dealer would do this free of cost (or even at all). Besides, every minute my truck isn't at the dealer is a good minute.
If it's worth it, I may use this as the excuse I need to finally get a J2534 adapter.
Well... I can answer my own question, I guess... got into FDRS yesterday and those updates aren't even available. So this one's a nothing-burger, at least for my truck.
I wish a reflash/TCM update was available for my truck; the flare between 3rd and 4th is just enough to be a nuisance…
I notice the other thing my 2023 does is... Even on a hot transmission, when I make a stop and turn the truck off... when I get back in, the trans temp gauge will sometimes be 'cold' when I restart... even when the stop was just a few minutes. As I drive away, it takes about 2-3 minutes of driving to get the temp back up to the middle, where it normally runs. I usually get the 3-4 shift flare when it does that.
My 24 has the 3 to 4 shift . still ....Sometimes on light acceleration its Very annoying . Went to the dealer four times with this issue They rebuild the transmission twice. I just don't understand some transmission have the shift problem and Some transmissions don't . The million dollar question why??Programming maybe!!
I also have the 3-4 shift flare -- always after the truck has sat, turned off, for a period of time after warming up, but hasn't cooled down completely, and it goes away after a couple minutes. @Charlie98 you make an interesting point on the trans temp gauge... I hadn't noticed that but I'll have to look more closely next time I drive. I keep the temp gauge with the actual temp readout in my cluster.
Anyway, in my opinion, the 3-4 flare is a software bug and something (probably? maybe?) fixed in the "new" 2026+ transmission calibration. Anyone here with a 2026 truck who can confirm or deny?
If there IS a new calibration out there, no reason for Ford to not give it to us through FDRS except for a desire to push us to trade in for a newer vehicle, which I definitely wouldn't rule out.
Either way, I'm staying with my 2024, so if Ford doesn't make the updated calibration available (or it doesn't solve these issues to my satisfaction) by the time my powertrain warranty is up, I'll be getting an aftermarket tune.
My 24 shifts a lot better then my 22. But yes the 24 has the annoying 3 to 4 shift and now I am randomly getting a rough downshift from 10 to 8 , I hope I am not losing this one to.
