2022 Ford Super Duty Limited

The latest round of recalls pertains to failing camera systems in the Ford Super Duty and corroded seat belts in select Mustang models.

Ford has developed a reputation for issuing more recalls than any other automotive manufacturer in recent years, which could be viewed as a good or bad thing, truthfully. It’s good because if there’s a safety issue with one’s vehicle, they’d obviously rather have it addressed than have to deal with a company that refuses to acknowledge – or repair – such a problem for free. On the flip side, dealing with a steady stream of recalls is also rather inconvenient and a sign that, well, initial quality needs to improve – a feeling that owners of select Ford Super Duty and Mustang models are dealing with yet again.

That’s because well over 600,000 Ford Super Duty and Mustang models are being recalled for some new issues that just popped up, which are – in some cases – potentially serious. We’ll start with the 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450, which is experiencing problems with its 360-degree camera system yet again – a common issue with quite a few Blue Oval vehicles these days.

In those 291,901 affected trucks – which were built between October 28, 2020, and December 23, 2022, the 360-degree camera system may not display a rearview image properly in certain lighting conditions, which can make it more difficult to see what’s behind the vehicle. Ford has received 10 reports of this issue occurring, and opted to issue a recall to address it, even though the systems comply with federal regulations.

To fix this problem, Ford dealers will update the image processing software in affected vehicles, though that remedy isn’t ready yet – it’s expected to start rolling out in March 2026. In the meantime, owners can expect to begin receiving interim letters this month, referencing Ford recall number 25SA8.

As for the 2015-2017 Ford Mustang, The Blue Oval is recalling 332,778 examples of the S550 generation pony car due to a more serious problem – the front seat belt anchor pretensioner cables can become corroded from exposure to water and road salt, potentially preventing them from properly restraining occupants. Affected models were built between February 11, 2014 and October 2, 2017, utilizing parts from a Tier 1 supplier known as Joyson Safety Systems.

To date, Ford is aware of at least 33 models with corroded seat belt tensioners, and two incidents where the cables had become separated as a result. As such, Ford is instructing dealers to inspect and replace both front seat belt anchor pretensioner assemblies, as well as remove sections of the carpet and underlayment that contact the cables and could retain moisture. This remedy for this recall – Ford number 25S92 – isn’t quite ready yet either, though it’s expected to arrive in January 2026.
