F-150 Eventually Does a Great Burnout: Tire Smokin’ Tuesday

By -

F-150 takes a few tries to really get the tires smoking, but persistence pays off in the end.

While an F-150 pickup with a worked engine will have no problem doing big, nasty burnouts, it can be a little harder for a stock truck, especially if it is an older model. This week’s Tire Smokin’ Tuesday video comes to us from the MAXSTUNNA YouTube channel and it features an 11th generation F-150 showing that determination goes a long way in a burnout competition.

This truck seems to struggle at first, but after a couple lackluster attempts in front of the crowd at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds of Davie, Florida, the stock-looking half-ton puts on a solid smoke show.

There are no details on this truck, but we know from the exterior styling that this is an 11th generation Ford F-150, offered from 2004 through 2008. We can tell from the sound that it is one of two V8 engines offered during that era, but we do not know whether it is the 4.6- or 5.4-liter mill. Based on the overall performance, we are going to guess this truck is packing the bigger V8, with 300 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque.

Other details include tires that appear to be a bit bigger than stock and the truck appears to ride higher than a stock F-150, but it still has the stock wheels. This truck also has some unique highlights, with the bull bar, step bars and trailer hitch receiver being bright green, but for the most part, this F-150 looks to be very near stock.

Trio of Burnouts

In the video above, the F-150 gets right to business, spinning the tires hard and creating a nice amount of smoke, but after a few seconds, the back end begins to walk around and the driver lifts. The driver backs up and straightens the truck out a bit for another try, leading to another great start, but after about 20 seconds, the back end begins to wander out and once again, the driver ends the burnout.

Finally, the driver moves the truck around on the concrete pad one more time and when he has the F-150 appropriately lined up, he hammers down and begins the final shot at a good burnout. This time, it all comes together correctly and the half-ton Ford puts on a smoke show that lasts for more than 30 seconds, filling the stadium with smoke.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
