First and foremost, Welcome to FTE!! Those are some fine looking wrong beds. It's true, they appear to have a few bumps and bruises, but they are survivors, and can wear those scars with pride, and oh, the stories, I imagine they could regale us with...
So now that you have perked out interests (or at least mine) please introduce yourself, and tell all us about these two fine trucks. Or, if you are looking for ideas, jump in with your questions, as I know there are quite a few good folks on this site who have proven to be nearly as knowledgeable as our great creator when it comes to knowing these trucks inside out.
It's not only about the trucks, it's also about the people, So tell us who you are, and what you want to do with your truck or trucks. Tell us what you dream to do, I assume these are your trucks and you hopefully have something in mind. Are you looking to restore, restomod, or build a giant wheeled swamp rat (please don''t, I have no doubt you will find another enthusiast, but...) or just looking to share?
Regardless, there are good people all across our big blue orb who are blue oval fans, and who will be able to help, and will likely do so with enthusiasm.
I've just recently got this white one running and driving around town having fun doing so , I imagine I'll do the same with the red one probably not much more than that. Just figured I'd share with some people who might appreciate them.
Red one appears to be a 1963. Shorter roofline, 3 bolts per side on the front bumper, tighter FORD lettering on the upper valance, 1963 grille and the radiator is dated 11/62 for the 1963 model year.
I did notice some differences but I thought maybe since the one was a custom cab . Also the grill guard on the white one mounts to the frame but not the red one , does this mean the guard is not original or something they changed between the years ? Learning already thank you guys. I do have the title somewhere and probably would have noticed the year eventually. Definitely some farm trucks , I'm told the red one was used by the local Ford dealer for a lot of years , before me.
I believe the white one has had the tougher life , the bed is definitely well used condition. The red one has floor braces and pans sitting in the seat so that's probably a good sign of what's to come there. I've got everything working minus the blinkers. The switch was having issues and interfering with the tail and brake lights so I did remove it in search of a replacement which I haven't been able to find one saying 4x4 specific.
Both trucks look like keepers to me. And I have to admit, I too would not have noticed the differences outside the Custom Cab on the white, and non CC on the Red. Just goes to show how new at this I am.
That aside, Thanks for sharing. It might be fun if you could also look in the glove box and post photo's of the build plates, then we can decode them, which naturally will likely open up more discussions for sure.
That, and it is always interesting to see how these old trucks were originally set up, and compare them with what still is original assuming you will be able to fill in some of the possible modifications. Often those changes if any, will say a lot of how it was used or about the previous owners specific needs. Check out another post by @38 coupehttps://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...3-f-100-a.html.
His '63, (ok, now I am seeing some of the differences) says a lot about the original owner, and definitely adds some cool providence.
The four-wheel drive turn signal switch has more in common with the larger F series trucks (F450 and up) than an F100 or 250...
So if you have a salvage yard near you... Start checking the BIG for trucks for the parts you need...
