I’m back at it again, you know you have a problem when people contact you about old ford trucks. This is my first bump side but I am well versed in dent side fords. I have a 76 highboy, 79 f-250 and a 78 bronco. Guy I know contacted me and asked if I was interested in a truck. I went and looked at it and it came home with me. It’s a 67 f250 4x4 that has had a different cab put on it at one time. It has a state police vin tag and still has the column shift steering column in it. Looks to be a 300 or 240 straight six and a 4 speed. Motor is seized and full off water looks like valve cover has been off for a long time. Cab and bed are in bad shape, might try and find a good 300 and get it running and driving.
Pressure washed truck last night, definitely could tell it was a farm truck. Still not convinced it’s worth fixing. Frame looks good but body is ruff, needs cab mounts, floors and rockers. Hope to find a clean truck to swap body. Bed is not to bad but lots of dents and some rust. Hood and both front fenders are junk and core support is junk too. Both door bottoms are ruff, passenger side not to bad but drivers is. Motor is junk drained about 5 gallons of water out of it.
Can I bolt in a small block ford 302 into this truck while retaining the factory engine stands on frame? I have been looking around locally for a engine, I would prefer a v8 but if I find a decent 6 I will go with that. I ordered cab mounts and plan on just fixing the mounts and the floor pans. I don’t plan on this being a frame off resto just a farm truck. Of course I have said that before and it gets out of hand.
Yes, you can use a 302/351W if you add 4WD 77-79 351M/400 engine stands with the required W engine mounts. You will have to drill new holes where the new motor will sit. The 352 FE stands you have now can be used for a Six by sliding to the next hole and using the proper Six engine mount. For a W engine and a Six requires a Small Block Ford Bell housing. If you can't JY them, you can find new stands at Autofab.
Thanks for the info rich, only other question is the clutch pivot mount screw into a w engine. The pivot for the z bar that screws into the block of the 6?
Found a engine on marketplace, it is a 300 out of a military water pump. It starts and runs good and looks to have low hours. It is a industrial motor but it looks like everything will swap over fine.
Will the power range be different on the industrial engine? Sweet deal for a low hours motor regardless!
Don’t know I haven’t found a power rating on this engine yet. It had a belt driven engine govern. Carb might have to be changed over to a automotive one. All I know Is it a lot better than the current one.
