MBRP Attempts to Fix the Ford F-150 EcoBoost Exhaust Sound

Flat out, the exhaust on the Ford F-150 2.7 EcoBoost is boring. It’s soft, it’s plain, it’s forgettable. And on a truck, that’s not a good thing. The newish F-150 sounds like this, of course, because it’s powered by a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 that was added to the lineup to improve gas mileage. There are have been all sorts of complaints about the dainty sound, so it’s not surprising that there have been some people attempting to improve it, MBRP Inc. Performance Exhaust being the most recent.

In a new video from AmericanMuscle.com, Justin Dugan talks about the new MBRP four-inch Installer Series cat-back exhaust. It’s a mandrel-bent aluminized steel bolt-on with a five-inch polished steel tip that exits behind the rear passenger tire.

At $375, the bolt-on is a pretty easy and cheap option to alter what you’ll be hearing while driving your truck, but is it any good? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re regretting your eco-friendly decision to buy a turbo truck, we’re sorry to tell you that this isn’t going to remind you of your trusty old V8. Self-described as a “mellow exhaust note,” we’d say it sounds more like a tuned Honda Civic when all is said and done.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
