2024 Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado 1500: Old Rivals Meet Again

Old Rivalry

In the automotive world, the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado are two of the biggest rivals out there, and both light-duty full-size pickups compete in arguably the most important segment of them all. The F-150 has historically dominated the Silverado on the sales charts, however, but as is often the case, both of these models recently received refreshes - the F-150 in 2024, and the Silverado in 2022 - making now a great time to revisit this rivalry.

2024 F-150: What's New?

The 2024 F-150 has received the latest mid-cycle refresh for the venerable pickup, which includes slightly revised exterior styling, a revamped trim level lineup, and some interior revisions. The old 3.3-liter V6 is gone, replaced by the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 as the standard powerplant, and the 12-inch touchscreen and 12-inch digital instrument panel are now standard across the lineup. Meanwhile, a head-up display is now available for the first time in the F-150, too.

2024 Silverado 1500: What's New?

As for the 2024 Silverado 1500, GM has given it a few welcome updates including an available diesel engine in the off-road-focused ZR2, standard wireless charging, and both front and rear parking sensors have been added to the standard safety package, too.

Trims

Both of these pickups are available in a wide array of trims and configurations, including regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew configurations, as well as with a short or long bed and either two- or four-wheel-drive. From there, the F-150 can be had in XL, STX, XLT, Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum (or Platinum Plus), and Raptor (or Raptor R) trims.

As for the 2024 Silverado 1500, it can be spec'd in WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2 trims, to boot. One thing the Silverado is lacking, however, is a proper Raptor rival, both in base form and the supercharged V8-powered Raptor R.

Powertrains

The same goes for powertrains, as both of these pickups offer quite a few of them. For the F-150, that list includes the aforementioned 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, plus the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and 5.2-liter Predator-based V8 in the Raptor R. All are mated to the same 10-speed automatic transmission, however.

As for the Silverado 1500, it can be had with the standard turbo 2.7-liter four-cylinder, a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel, or either the 5.3-liter or 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8s.

Pricing

Both of these trucks offer a rather broad array of prices depending on trim and equipment, but both start out around the same - at least in terms of the work-focused trims. The 2024 F-150 can be had for as little as $37k for the XL and as much as $111k for the Raptor R, while the Silverado also starts out at $37k and tops out at $70k for the ZR2.

Bragging Rights

When you're talking about the first and second-best-selling vehicles in their segment, it's clear that the F-150 and Silverado both have a lot to offer customers. However, this latest round of updates helps keep the F-150 fresh in this hotly contested space, and given its stranglehold atop the light-duty full-size pickup charts, it's hard to count it out moving forward, too.
