Ignition Control Module ICM TFI

Comparing ICM. Here you are greystreak.

Wiring diagrams...

The following is for my '94...NOTE, no resistor

ICM look like this...

So, why are there four? After pdf opens page down.

Hint 1: Before replacing ICM check the grounds, especially on the fender by the battery. I replaced ICM and distributor three times each and coil once before finding the bad ground.

Hint 2: Before opening wiring harness from coil to computer to find a resistor look to see if pin 4 on the ICM connects to pin 4 on the ECM. If so you have a CCD system (not Push Start) there is no resistor. Then I found the above article after confirming there is no resistor on mine.

Suggestion: No matter how many complaints you get over keeping used parts do not throw a black ICM away. You will not find another new black Motorcraft one. Even if you no longer have the vehicle. Someone here or on eBay wants it. Since I threw mine away I'm running one from a 6 cyl Tarus in my 351.

I hope this saves someone a lot of grief.

I have been watching since my post and have a question about the push start/no push start, grey/black thing. I know what they are talking about, but it seems a moot point if you have an automatic, since ford long-since quit putting a rear pump, driven by the tailshaft in their trannies. My guess is that the grey would somehow provide a non resistive 12V to the coil during the push, but would switch back when running. Also wonder if it is triggered by rpm's to tell if the engine is started.

No matter what the color is, you are not going to push start the late model auto's. It would certainly be worthwhile to have a grey module on a manual tranny---my .02 anyway.

For the rest of it, its just gozta wires-------this one gozta here, that one gozta there---! 10-4 on the ground and also on a 3 post start solenoid.

I was also confused why one system is called Push Start when it has nothing to do with pushing with another vehicle to start it.

b4hntn,

Thanks for the info. When I'm not racing between shows, I'll have a look at them in depth.
