I don't know what the problem is but will guess if you are noticing that either yours has and extra wire or one less (I can't remember) that's typical, it will work.

Originally they had several part numbers but over the years they are almost a one size fits all.

Any good parts store should have one that will work.

If that ain't it be more specific.

75 is a green strain relief module. it runs the coil a little hotter (and kills coils a little faster) than a blue box. A blue box has the same pin-out and will trigger your distributor just fine and is easier to find.

1975 Ford ignition module

I have purchased several modules from different parts houses. They all advise that it was the correct module based on year model and motorcraft part number. But, none of them will start the vehicle. I put my old unit back on and it starts the vehicle, so it is definitely the module. I know it is fixing to go out because all of the gel in the back of the unit has melted out. Since I have completely restored this truck I want to replace the module also. Any advice?

Mine has a black strain relief. I have tried a green, but, it didn't work.

I found a special attention to this module on the advance auto site

It lists numbers to look for.

I also tried the motorcraft site but they have shut their page down for now.

Also one note about ignition modules.......alot of times theres a cheaper imported one available......they are cheaper for two reasons. No. 1 is cheaper labor, second is they actually remove any "uneeded" circuits. They're "unneeded" in the sense of the vehicle will run with out them but they're usually circuits that stabalize voltage and protect the various running circuits in the box. So unless it's an old beater try to stay away from the cheaper modules if you can. They are not the same!
later,
Konrad
