ABS Light On

normally it is one of the speed sensors. Newer trucks have a pickup on each front hub and one on the center rear axle. Im not sure if your 98 is a 4 wheel ABS or 2 wheel ABS. Older trucks just have the rear pickup. Take the battery cablel off and clear that code in the computer, then reinstall the cable. Start the truck, does the light stay off? Start moving, does the light come on at 10 mph? If the light comes on after moving, the speed pickup is not sending a signal. If the light comes on setting still, the circuit to the pickup is open, either one sensor bad, plug bad or ABS module bad.

2000 f150 4x4 xlt ABS light stays on
Hi, my ABS light just came on and has stayed on.
I see the info on the rear abs sensor. But heres what ive noticed. my frt left wheel has been making a sound when moving. very light grinding sound almost. brakes should be fine when i step on the pedal the sound seems to quiet. I had truck up ion the air tires rotated, both frts seemed ok( i was getting oil done-yes its cheaper and quicker 30 bucks) im not sure if they rotated tire to see if there was noise or just pushed on it to see if there was play. I do have 4 wheel abs. they told me they dont see a problem with the hubs???? ill probnably have to remove the tire and check brakes etc i do know the thin backing plates on the front are pretty much gone for the most part. maybe I just need to clean the sensors?
I have a scan tool but they dont give out abs codes since it has its own module. maybe its the rear one but cant help thinking somethings going on in frt since i was hearing that noise?
Any ideas??

jwj... they cant tell if the wheel hub/bearing is bad by looking. If you have a noise, i try to narrow down which side if possible. Best way to confirm is to take tire off, take the brake assembly off, and then rotate the hub slowly by hand. If you fee dragging, sticking, or hear the noise then you got it. There normally will be very little radial or axial play at first. THe bearing will go dry and squeek and it could be a couple months or more before you see additional problems. If it gets bad enough, sometimes you can just rotate the tire without removing the tire or brake and hear it... but remember, the brake will drag and make some noise. When the hub goes bad, it can effect the ABS sensor inside and give that code.

I too just bought a 1998 f250 5.4 4x4. The ABS light comes on and so does the emergency brake light (e-brake is released). They will go off but usually end up coming back on.
Is there a way to tell which sensor is bad without having to replace all 3? Also where is the ABS module located?
Part numbers would be appreciated as well.
Thanks.
