F150 and BP gas

OK I am curious about something, I just bought my truck about 3 months ago, and I am wanting to know why it says Ford recommends using BP gas in the truck, Why is that? I am sure there has been a post somewhere on here but I cannot find it. This puzzles me, my buddy said he was using it a few years ago and gettting better gas mileage out of bp, but he is not really the brightest bulb in the pack, lol. Well hope someone can shed some light on this one for me, Thanks.

Now that's interesting. I never seen a brand recommended by a manufacturer unless it was there branded parts.

My Ranger says the same thing. It's strictly advertising. My trucks gets the same gas mileage and preformance no matter what brand of 87 octane I put in it.

My Fords say it too. But I won't buy BP until they figure out a way to keep there refinery (Texas City) down the road from blowing up a few times a year.

i prefer using BP my truck says to use it too. My truck seems to run better and get better mileage too. I assume its because of all the cleaning agents that are in BP gasoline. If i use anything else my truck spits and sputters so I dont know a technical answer but thats why i use it and probably why they say to use it

Ford says to use BP because BP paid them to put that sticker on the gas cap.

no other reason. you'll actually find that BP gas is crap. it has a high percentage of ethanol in it.

the higher percentage of ethanol makes my truck get lower MPG. I haven't used BP gas in almost 2 years. On a trip to Texas from Seattel I went from 20-21 mpg highway to about 15-16 mpg highway with that crap and for about 1-2 tanks afterwards. Once it was flushed, went back to ~20 mpg highway. Truck did the same thing on the way back up to Seattle.

Shell and Exxon have no ethanol. BP stations are not around here, but Sunoco also has the ethanol in it. If I run it in either the F-150 or the Explorer, the mileage drops. They can say what they want about ethanol; using it only gets you less mileage and no real cleaning agents.

If you go to the BP web site and look at some of the vidio's, it looks like Ford gave BP some Super Duties to use way up North... gratis. They may have a deal together for advertising?

I agree with tylus, though the dealer near my area said that BP supplies fuel to the plants where the trucks are built.

so basically it's a "you rub my back" setup.

2-3 gallons of gas for a new truck, get a nice little sticker on the gas cap that everybody sees every single fillup. pretty good idea

that may be. but the MPG still goes down significantly when I use it. same with any other gas that has the 10% sticker on the pump

I don't think stickers are required any more....

In Michigan, any gas with ethanol had to have the 10% disclosure sticker, but in the last year or so, I believe that the laws have been changed so that you may not know who's adding ethanol and who's not (unless you can clearly smell it). BP used to be straight gasoline, but I'm not sure any more. I believe that Shell is still all gas. When they eliminated MTBE as an additive, they switched to ethanol as an oxygenating agent (required for Michigan winter gas, for sure), and because it's now an "additive" instead of a dilution agent, no more disclosure...

And yeah, my E150 with 4.6 has had a lifetime gas mileage average of 16.5 (regularly getting over 17 on trips, not driving very slow) and I seem to be down 1-2 mpg in all situations with the ethanol...
