I am shocked. My truck for the 4th time yesterday had a DEF fault come up. I took it to the dealer. They called Ford. Ford said my cetane level was not up to par and also that I was not running their additive and thats why it caused the NOX fault again. The NOX sensor didnt fail, it just read an out of tolerance temperature.
Ford said the customer "me" isnt going to like this but I am going to have to pay for having the EGR taken out and blown out to make sure there is no carbon and I will always have to run their additive.
Ford states that it is in their manual that I always have to run it. I am going to go get stuck with a 600 dollar bill for all this.
Its funny because Ford said my fuel was junk and I am a big BP dealer in NC. I only run BP diesel to get their additives already in it. In the past few months Marathon bought the BP terminals so maybe its a Marathon issue.
Either way I walked out stunned. Does everyone here run that additive??? What are u guys thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I've run there pm 22a since day one and have had nox sensor replaced. Sounds like there blowing sand up your butt.. didn't no ford dealer has a lab to ck for cetane.lol . I call BS on that mess.
i have been running the summer and winter blend (winter not as much) in just about every other tank in the last 3 years 50K and never had that issue. I dont know if that is why i have never had that happen or not though.
I don't think it's in the manual to run their PM22A however it is on the care tips and maintenance page that dealers are supposed to include with the paperwork (and sign) but don't.
I do a lot of town and short distance. Guys I did get a bad feeling and just went and picked up the truck today. It's home til I get it resolved or just keep driving it. It's run fine all week. No def faults.
I think your issue is you are not working it hard on occasion. Getting the carbon build up is sometimes a problem with a lot of city and stop and go driving as that produces more soot.
I agree if you own a diesel you need to drive the crap out it, than pick up the crap and drive it some more.
I have a 2012 f 250 diesel bought it in the spring of 2012 it has 53,000 miles on and has not had one CEL or been in the shop. i very seldom put addtive in.
