Fuel leak

I got my truck back from the shop (body work), and I noticed a fuel leak next to the starter, (along with bad fuel milage). I only see it when I park after driving. I don't see a drip when I let it idle or rev it up in place. It's only there after I am driving. The vally is soaked! It looks like the fuel pump? or something else?

more than likely the fuel pump but there are a number of other places it could be from around the fuel filter. Go get a couple cans of brake cleaner and clean and dry the valley then start the truck up and see where its coming from. if you have to drive around the block then check it.

Wink

somebody advices that using baby powder after cleaning the valley is a goot tip to see where the leak begins. Be careful not to left finger prints in it (because the wife LOL)

I am probaly going to get the pump and carry it with me until I have time to replace it. Is there ANYTHING else I should get to replace while in the vally? Also, what will I need to remove to replace it? (turbo etc.)

Also, I thought I heard you, TJ talking about a screen in the filter housing that should be cleaned with a q-tip. I looked for this but I could not see it.

Unless it's a Cali truck the turbo can stay. You will need to remove the fuel bowl which would be a good time to replace all the hoses underneath.

Look HERE about midway down the page, post #7. I posted an article by Sam Miller that has all the info you need for fuel pump replacement.

Hope it helps.

I'd go ahead andmake the time to check all the pressurizedfittings...you might have a slightly loose connection in your fuel somewhere but the culprit ain't showing itself until the system depressurizes. And while the powerstroke doesn't rattle around as much as a ccummins, it's probably time to check those...all the vibe tends to cause leaks like that.

WOW! for some reason I thought I would "slap it on" and go. Not the case.
I can not tell where the drip is starting, I just see it drip on the ground from the starter/flywheelpoint.
Funny part is it does not leak when it is running only when it's turned off. I can start it right now drive around the block and it won't leak when I park it but when I turn it off it will drip 2-10 times, anythoughts? I am eager to know what you all think because I am NOT changing it now and I am driving to Jersey tomorrow.
I want to ask you all the things I will need to re-do the valley (fuel wise). I was going to change the pump today but I don't have the time to really clean up in there like I want to. I need some 5/16? hose. and in the article that BEECHBM69 showed me the mentioned some O rings that I should be careful with, anyone know those sizes? Anyone know anything else I should have on hand? I also want to shim the pressure regulator, according to Baz I need a 3/16 shim. Where do I get a shim from will a "BB" work? or maybe sacrafice a Feelers gauge? What else can/should I do while I am in there?

I think you need to get a fuel leak assesed before you dive into some mods, mind you thats just my opinion.

Irregardless, those hoses off your lift pump arent just everyday rubber hose. They are pressure treated hoses and Ford has a lift pump kit you can buy that will sell you the hoses you need to replace. As far as O-rings go I dont remember if I had to install a new one when I did mine but somebody else will chime in on that. Irregardless, if you already got the lift pump then I would throw it on and see what happens. Good luck

You need the bango gaskets (2) an maybe the o-rings are for the valve in the fuel bowl.

Are in the rear part of the fuel pump, in the banjo BOLT, check this link for parts in the area of "Fuel" and you get the # of dealership an International in most of them.
