New CPS coming from ford! $25!!!!

Yes you read that correctly. Ford is unleashing a new CPS. List price is $25!! wholesale price is $18!! I don't know if its designed for OBS trucks or Superduties but as far as I have been able to find out the only difference is the contact material which in my book doesn't matter.

here's the part number
F7TZ-12K073-B

called my friendly parts counter today and confirmed the number. They are supposed to be availible May 1st.

Isnt that the only difference from the 94.5-96 models and the 97-03? I think the older ones have a zinc plating on them and the newer ones have gold. What material does this new one have?

I wonder what could cause such a price difference. Ford wants like $250 for the other ones

So that part will work in my '96 F350? I'll buy one just to have in the glove box!

Guys I still don't know what model years the CPS is designed for but I can tell you that I would buy one for my 97 if needed. The only difference I have found in the two CPS is the material the electrical contacts are made from. Call you ford dealer and ask them about what years this fits maybe it fits them all.

Gold is your best conducter, along with copper.
Gold is used generally because of its non corrosive properties.

Zinc and copper have a strong tendancy to oxidize. Gold and Paladium do not do this, that is why high end electronics have gold or paladium coating, or contacts.

The contacts you see on the comptuer chips today are just electro plated. The older cards had more gold.

ok- in my area the part becomes available july 7 07. it does not apply to a '96. I asked specifically if there was a F6TZ-12K073-B and F7TZ-12K073-B This summer I will buy one for $31 and see if I can modify it to work on a '96 and post back in a new thread if yes or return it to Ford if no
