New CPS coming from ford! $25!!!!
#47
Trust this I have installed and works just as well as the $140 one just a heck of alot cheaper! I threw the $140 dollar one in the glove box and ordered a second $25 one three days ago just have not had the time to pick it up. I did talk to the parts guys at the stealership and told them they should tell their mechanics about this and they said this: We are not saying anything as we have 2 $140 dollar units left on the shelf! Like I said kcmagers trust this it is true...and a plus you are saving alot of money! Have a good one, TITUS

Since I'm new to this site..and diesels, could you tell me what a"cps" is?
It , or at least the price seems exciting!
Sorry for my ignorance. I've never been good at figuring out acronyms. Perhaps, in case there are others out there like me, acronyms could be defined upon first use? Such as the spark arrestor(SA) is $1.99. This a good price for a SA.
Thanks for all of the help.
This forum id the best..Better than the Ford dealer!!!

CPS is a Camshaft Position Sensor. this a high failure item that normal runs $150-$200 list price from the dealership. Cheaper on ebay but $25 is about half of price of even the cheapest ebay sensor. This sensor when it fails with disable the engine. it may start with an intermittant stall problem. its best to carry a spare with a 10mm deep well socket and 1/4 inch drive ratchet. theya re an easy change as long as it light, not raining or snowing. then it would be annoying.

No tests. It just starts acting up creating a variety of symptoms. Could be just one issue or several. Here's a couple of links for you.

The info on this page is about half way down. Save that page in your favorites. Nice list of acronyms there too.

Just discovered a new-to-me PSD site. I'm probably the last one to find it.

Good stuff there. His truck is an '02 but still mostly relevant to us including a good writeup on replacing the cps. Click here for that.
Here's an interesting quote from there regarding this new cps.
Many online vendors are selling a new and improved CPS, including shipping for only $25 and change beginning May 1, 2007!
It would seem as Ford is positioning itself financially to better handle the potential cost of a massive "customer refund" for reimbursement of the cost of this part. Due to the rising number of complaints that the NTSB has received from safety concerns over the sudden loss of engine and brake systems due to a failing CPS, speculation is that Ford has lowered the retail price to attempt to curb the cries for an all out recall. It is also rumored that the new CPS will be able to sense pulses from the camshaft from twice the distance as its predecessor.

There are 2 on normal stock delivery to my local dealer out here in San Diego. I am going to buy them both. There are 340 in sacramento, 213 in Memphis and 1000 in detroit. Looks like they are starting to get distributed to a dealership near you. They were going to charge me over $40 Heck of a mark up for suggested retail of $27.62 I explained that since this was a retail sale and I knew you guys he would give it to me for $27.62-thanks

I got mine today and installed it and did not notice any difference. I was looking at the new one compared to the old one and my old one felt as if it had a stronger magnet. I remember reading about the blue cps, and it seemed everyone thought the big difference may have been to the blue one having a stronger magnet. $20 plus dollars delivered to my door was nice though.
