Unhappy '93 Intake

I am looken to get an intake kit for my '93 Ranger 3.0L. I have not been able to find any kits on the internet, does anyone know of a place that has one or have any advice as to how to create my own?
Also, I am wondering if this is something that I should put my $ into, or would it be better to just invest in exhast.

Welcome to FTE!

My vote is to go with the exhaust upgrade first. It will probably give you the most bang for your buck right off the bat.

What kind of intake kit are you looking for? Cold Air? Cone Filter?

If you want a fairly cheap intake solution you could allways drop a k&n panel filter in, remove the silencer cone in the airbox, and cut another hole in it as well, then this site http://www.ssd4u.com/streetsmart_006.htm sells larger diameter tubes. (haven't actually bought a tube I'm about to buy some mandrell bent pipe and weld up my own, Just have to find some 3" rubber hose for gasket material. hmmm

I had read somewhere that an air intake kit from a Civic would work in a '93 V6 3.0L. Just wondering if anyone knows more on that, because I'm not especially crafty but would like an air intake in my Ranger as well. Any help would be appreciated!

I've read the same thing, but haven't come across any kind of write-up on how exactly it's done. I would also like to find out more about it, out of curiosity more than anything.

FWIW, this is how one guy did it on his '94 4.0L. Maybe it'll give you some ideas on how it can be accomplished on the 3.0L:

Thanks, Rock, that's pretty interesting stuff. If all else fails, I may have to grab a more mechanically-inclined friend and attempt something like that... it was rather cost-effective, at least!

This might seem like a real dumb question, so pardon me before I even ask it. Can you swap an MAF on a 3.0L with that of a 4.0L, or would that cause some problems? The reason I ask is that I am trying to build a seat from the MAF to a cone filter for some cold air intake, but can't seem to work the PVC seat from that mod above to work on the 3.0L MAF. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The 3.0L and 4.0L MAFs are not identical. But that doesn't automatically mean the swap won't work on your modified setup.

Once you change the intake around, the best way to "tune" the new setup, IMO, would be to dyno it a few times, and then have a new chip burned.

Thanks, that helps a lot... now for another random question. Will an air intake tube from a 1995+ 4.0L Ranger fit on my '93 3.0L? I don't know the answer to that question... anyone else?

I never bothered looking into it more, so I can't answer that. I ended up making a custom job out of it thanks to the link Rockledge provided. It really wasn't that hard, and I had fun doing it! ...of course, having a few beers in the process didn't hurt!
